Battlestar Galactica Online

Since launching this past February, Bigpoint reports that five million players worldwide have registered to play its free-to-play, browser-based video game version of Battlestar Galactica. This is yet more evidence that the free-to-play model is taking over, alongside announcements of other MMOs like Star Trek Online switching over from subscription-based payment systems.

Bigpoint plans to update the game with more content moving forward, including Fleet Recon ships for the Colonial and Cylon sides. The basic versions of these ships will be available to purchase with real dollars or with Cubits, the in-game currency. The absurdly large Brimir Class Carrier should also be making an appearance in game some time this fall, whenever the development team figures out how to include it without screwing up balance too much.

We’ve heard people can’t get enough of Words With Friends because they love to cheer on their opponents through the in-game chat (who are we kidding, we know you love to trash talk!). We’ve made it even easier for people playing on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to shout out who’s the boss when it comes to vocabulary through Twitter and Apple’s iOS 5 integration. After signing into Twitter in iOS 5, you can start challenging friends, bragging about your current domination and letting people know you’re serious about playing.
